Examine the promise before the choice
Genesis 3:1–7 follows a temptation from distorted speech to a choice whose outcome differs from its promise.
Listen to how the command is presented
The serpent begins with a question that misrepresents God’s provision. Read Genesis 2:16–17 as supporting context: generous permission precedes the prohibition. The conversation in Genesis 3 moves from questioning the command to denying its consequence and casting suspicion on God’s intention.
Notice the gap between attraction and outcome
The fruit appears desirable for food, beauty and wisdom. Both the woman and the man eat, and the scene ends with awareness of nakedness and an attempt to make coverings. The attraction of a choice does not establish that its promise can be trusted.
Make room for discernment
When an opportunity asks you to compromise a clear responsibility, examine the whole promise before acting. What facts have been omitted? Who may be harmed? Honest counsel and attention to God’s word can interrupt the rush from desire to decision.

Which attractive promise needs closer examination before you act on it?

Father, give me discernment when desire makes a harmful choice look wise. Help me trust Your goodness and act faithfully. Amen.
