READING NOTES
Face mortality with resurrection hope
Genesis 3 and 1 Corinthians 15 bring human accountability and mortality into conversation with the hope of resurrection.
Hear the questions before the consequences
In Genesis 3:9–19, God addresses the man and woman after their disobedience. Their replies shift responsibility, while the consequences reach work, relationships and mortality. The account describes brokenness; it does not give permission to mistreat women, blame every illness on personal wrongdoing or excuse harmful conduct as inevitable.
Read Paul’s promise in its resurrection setting
In 1 Corinthians 15:51–56, Paul speaks of transformation, the raising of the dead and mortality giving way to immortality. His hope concerns God’s action beyond the limits of our present bodies. Verses 57–58, as supporting context, locate victory in Christ and encourage steadfast service.
Let hope deepen present faithfulness
Resurrection hope does not require us to deny grief or minimise the pain of death. It can sustain truthful responsibility, compassionate presence and work that serves others. We can acknowledge our limits while trusting that death does not have the final word in Christ.
For reflection
How might resurrection hope help you remain present to someone who is grieving?
A short prayer
God of life, meet us in our grief and weakness. Keep our hope in Christ and help us serve faithfully within the days we are given. Amen.
