Grace in the face of accusation

Zechariah 3 and Revelation 12 describe accusation, God’s initiative and faithfulness grounded in His saving work.

Notice who acts for Joshua

Zechariah’s vision places Joshua the high priest before the angel of the LORD, with an accuser beside him. Joshua’s soiled garments are removed and he receives clean clothing. The explanation concerns the removal of guilt. Restoration begins with God’s action, followed by a charge to walk in His ways.

Keep Christ central

Revelation 12:7–12 presents the defeat of the dragon and the casting down of the accuser. The proclamation points to the Lamb’s blood and the believers’ testimony. Their faithfulness includes willingness to face death; victory here cannot be reduced to a promise of an untroubled life.

Receive grace with responsibility

Both readings give grounds for hope when accusation is overwhelming. Grace also makes room for truthful correction. Distinguish an accusation intended to crush a person from evidence of a wrong that needs putting right. Receiving forgiveness and accepting responsibility can belong together.

For reflection

Where do you need to receive God’s grace, and what faithful response would follow?

A short prayer

Lord, keep my confidence in Your mercy. Help me resist despair, receive correction and remain faithful to Christ. Amen.
